After a long time on dry dock Marumaru Atua has been back on the water and training up new crew and youth to sail her. Currently, the vaka has been to the Islands of Mauke and Atiu, with a trip to Managaia being cancelled due to adverse weather. There are pending trips to Takutea, Palmerston Island and a Southern Group trip.

The Vaka is currently sitting in Aitutaki Island but our hopes is to get her restored and returned to Rarotonga for display and educational teaching and admiration for the past and present Voyagers.
2022 dugout canoes were built in Rarotonga. The designs of each canoe will vary (i.e hull design, sailing rigging, freeboard height etc) reflecting the different environment (lagoon, open ocean) and uses of the canoes. Some will also incorporate more contemporary construction materials and methods.
